This guy doesn't offend me- his market is so limited too he's obviously going to have no impact other than on the low-end DTV market. Plus, it seems his HEART OF AMERICA movie is held as something of a gem at imdb.com, and devoid of the tasteless tone and themes that have given him his bad name, an indication that this guy has range and strengths in other areas.
I'd rather sign a petiton to be rid of the likes of McG, Guy Ritchie and Michael Bay (none of whom have anything resembling a HEART OF AMERICA), "filmmakers" with no visible talent who are given permission to make big studio movies in Hollywoood that clog up our multiplexes.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Now that's where you are wrong and with EVIDENTIAL PROOF that the standard has fallen vertically beyond rock bottom in the last 15 years- I LOVE mindless action/horror, when it's directed by someone who doesn't believe they are inventing the wheel or insulting me by pretending to be above the genre when really they are scraping the barrel of it. I was thoroughly offended when I saw Armageddon at the cinema in 1998- I couldn't BELIEVE Bay was playing his emotional scenes as if they were doco-drama or actually had an iota of integrity. And the Christ-like death of Bruce Willis' character played as though this was an actual, relatable and touching event when Bay spent the last 2 hours EXPLOITING the genre for all of it's cheap and easy thrill tactics and tricks- yet stick Steve Buscemi there and apparently everything is as relevent and to the standard of a Coen brothers movie- or Bay making Pearl Harbor and thinking he's David Lean by using old 3 strip Technicolor release prints and making Top Gun/Titanic in the 40s, when none of the CONTENT is even in the same Galaxy as Lean, yet the guy thinks he is pushing the genre into intelligent, bold new territory!
Michael Bay is an interesting choice for somebody you'd want gone. I mean, i can totally understand where you're coming from, but the guy isn't insultingly talentless. Within the genre he can do (action) he seems pretty good. And plus Team America wouldn't exist as it is without him [img]wink.gif[/img]

action movies should be how the use to be: CRAP or GOOD, not this shit-assed Bruckheimer high concept hybrid in the middle. You either make a B movie premise with an A-list script (RADIERS OF THE LOST ARK, TOTAL RECALL, TRUE LIES, TERMINATOR) or a fullout non-ironic rollercoaster with one priority (COMMANDO, FIRST BLOOD, RAMBO 2, MAD MAX 2, Romero/Richard Band/Troma/Fulci flicks of the 80s).
Bruckheimer is really the trash to blame because with Top Gun onwards he's created these AWFUL movies that really are on the same plane as Commando in terms of content, yet he's made them as though they are Gone With The Wind in terms of form, with all of the most white-trash, laughably offensive elements played straight as though it's Eisenstein making a political statement (think the China junk attack from Armageddon, Goose's death from Top Gun or Bay yelling at his film extras for "disrespecting the dead" if they weren't taking things seriously while filming Pearl Harbor, a trash movie exploiting a real disaster)! We don't have action stars anymore, we have these cake and it eat it backboneless "everymen" like Nic Cage and Ben Affleck, who want to wear a vest and be Arnie or Sly but being smuggly post-ironic about it so they don't get typecast or accused of supporting the oppresively right wing values of Bruckheimer's movies so they can then go do an art film and be "serious" (and get away with being COMPLETELY shallow and ball-less)- and WHERE is the fun in that?? Bruckheimer and Tony Scott started it all off with Top Gun.
Filmmakers like Paul (Mortal Kombat) Anderson, Lawrence Kasanoff and Chuck Russell I do have time for, because they make crap, they love crap and they are prepared to go down with the ship if they do it badly. One of my favourite films actually is a cheapo Rutger Hauer no-budgeter called Split Second, a cat and mouse thriller set in a flooded London of the future (it's already dated). The director is an American hack, Tony Maylam, and it was shot during the UKs big filmmaking slump in the early 90s- I absolutely love this movie becasue despite it's theatrical release, it was MADE proudly to sit on the bottom shelf of Blockbuster forever! who could forget such WONDERFUL throwaway lines as:
Neil Duncan: "I wouldn't say this monster looks like Satan, I'd say it IS Satan!"
Rutger Hauer: "Well 'SATAN', is in DEEP SHIT!"
I second the opinion about "Split Second" - a true gem. Rutger at his fattest, the special f/x at its crappiest and the dialogue at its campiest:
"His life consists of chocolate, coffee and guilt."

Uwe Boll: precisely zero talent (from what I've seen) to tell a coherent story with decent acting/ direction, editing or FX, but truly one of the most hilarious and delusional individuals ever.
